What Is It ?

I was first drawn to the flowers on it. But after picking it up and looking at it, I figured it out. I have never seen one of these, nor knew they made them. I think it's from the 50's or 60's. It was .99¢.

It's for a Fly Swatter. You hang it on the wall and slip the swatter in and "Voila" you have a place to put your fly killer.

I have no clue what it is but I think you found a great use for it.

Strange, I hope someone knows what it is because now I want to know.

Hugs,
Joanne

I have no idea what it is either, but I really like what you came up with. It's much better than the cup hook that I hang mine on, lol.

With a hole in the bottom is ain't a wall pocket and since it is shaped like a fly squasher leaves one to only conclude that decades ago a fly swatter meant you had flies and hanging a nasty fly swatter somewhere in your home exposed on-lookers to mashed bloody and mutilated fly carcasses that could turn ones stomach. So a proper housekeeper named Beatrice would hide such a hideous accouterment away from the eye and away from judgments from guests and make a murderous fly guts tool wall art and concealed it neatly and smartly in porcelain and decoratively displayed in her well kept home with a picket fence, pricilla tie back curtains and floral slip covered furniture. She always had supper hot and on the table right when her hubby came in the door from a hard day at the Bank...she always wore a smart apron too that matched her high heels. They had just gotten married a year ago Easter Sunday and just set up housekeeping. Monday morning after her husband set off for the bus to the office she took the trolley downtown to deposit her husbands check and to pick up some laundry powder and liquid starch plus a few other household items.... she picked up the peachy keen china fly swatter concealer at Woolworth's for 25¢. At Beatrice's request she had the young gal behind the counter wrap it in tissue paper and put it in a little box, at no extra charge, so in case she ran into that nosey widow woman ol Mrs. Hoggbottom, she would know what it was for, and she'd think that maybe Beatrice had a fly issue at home and would add her 2¢ worth of reasons that, that would explain why she noticed flies in her own home now that Beatrice and Norman had moved in to the neighborhood. She was meeting her friend Betty Jo for lunch at the Woolworth fountain and they talked about married life over an egg salad sandwich and strawberry malted and Beatrice secretly confided to Betty Jo that she had missed a period and had an appointment at 3 with her doctor. After the doctor visit she took the trolley back home and as she walked up to her door she paused to chat with her other neighbor Susan and was told that Mrs. Hoggbottom was cross town playing bridge and "God only knows who them ol biddies are gossiping about". They laughed alot and talked about meatloaf recipes and Beatrice knew her fly swatter holder secret was safely home.

What a great find. Now I wish I could find one. I'll have to keep a look out for one.

It does look like it was intended to be a flyswatter holder!
