Fathers Day

It's another Fathers Day. I lost my father in 2006. So, it's a little bittersweet.

I remember the things he did. Like making us stilts to walk around the neighborhood on. Fixing our bikes, making go carts and skateboards from old roller skates we no longer used. Always inventing things from something no one would ever think of. Taking us fishing on camping trips in the motorboat. Getting a large tire inner tube from the trucks at work blowing it up and letting us use it for playing on the lawn with, jumping on it. Making a tether ball pole out of a, pole and old tire and cement. We played with it for hours, I use to climb it all the time.

Thank you and mom for all the wonderful memories we have.

Love you both, and miss you daily.

I think mom had a fit over the stilts fearing we'd fall and break something or get catapulted off the inner tube and go through that plate glass window. Sometimes I wondered if she approved of daddy's imagination and energy with his kids as guinea pigs. Alas we never got seriously hurt or maimed but mom always had her words of safety advice handy and ready for anyone who would listen.

Daughters and fathers...a special connection. Sending you tender thoughts on this Father's Day without your dad.

What a sweet post. I still have my father, but we don't have the kind of relationship that you and your father had. I love him greatly and I *think* that I have finally learned to love him for the way he is and not what I wanted growing up.

Glenda,
This is such a sweet post. I lost my father in 2005, he sounded a lot like your father. My dad brought home inner-tubes from the school buses he worked on. We jumped on them and HUGE earthworms would come up. My uncle used to pay us for the worms for fishing! My dad always made my childhood full of fond memories! Hugs, Victoria Lynn
