Trouble in my Decisions

These are the highboy and the dresser of my parents. The mess was in my parents house when we cleaned their house out.

There are sometimes that I keep changing my mind on things and it drives me crazy. I have furniture that belonged to my parents that I have not moved yet into my home. Reason, I haven't cleaned out my bedroom of all the clutter. And I do mean CLUTTER. I went through a faze of buying clothes, I guess you could call it obsessive. I have since stopped buying the clothes and now they are just everywhere. I will get rid of them, (It takes time).
But now I am doubting that I want the furniture. After seeing all the dressers that have been painted white, I would love to have white furniture to brighten things up.  I am now thinking maybe I'd want that. I would not however paint the furniture of my parents. They are antiques and I like them, but I am torn. Oh, decisions, decisions.

Ciao

I love the shape of those dressers. And to be honest, I can see them painted white...they would be gorgeous. But, I can understand you not wanting to paint them...

Glenda, paint the dressers, life is too short, who cares about paint on antiques if you don't like them dark! The next person after you might strip and return them dark, and so it goes!
Honey, these would love over the top fabulous Heirloom White, WOWZER!!!!!!!

Hi Glenda!
I LOVE the furniture pieces! You could have the best of both worlds if you took the plunge and painted your parents pieces. You would have a part of them AND the white furniture you want! Maybe they would like the fact that you are using what you already have in a very very thrifty and clever way. I have painted some of my family pieces and not been sorry.
As for the abundance of clothing, if you can't sell them in a yard sale to make some extra $$, find a Battered Womens Shelter or a Dress For Success group that can REALLY use the apparel. You'll feel good and make a difference in someone else's life with new self-confidence. Just a thought...

Hi--I have my grandmother's dresser, and when I first got it from my sister, I was undecided, also, about painting it. However, it was scratched and the stain was old and faded, so I decided to go ahead and refinish it. That was several years ago, and I'm not fond of refurbishing furniture because it's usually a lot of work; BUT I used an electric sander, sanded it, primed it with some gray primer paint, and then painted it cream-colored. I got some brass cleaner and shined up the drawer handles (that was more work than painting the dresser!), and I just love it. It's in one of my guest rooms, and I have the dresser, which reminds me of my grandparents, and I have the added bonus of a "shabby chic" piece of furniture that looks cute in my vintage guest room. So . . . I would say, go ahead and do it, if you want to! You will love it. Cheers, Jann
